The football club Watford FC announced on their Instagram account that their official game jerseys will have the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve.

This is a tremendous advancement for the cryptocurrency world. Soccer teams have been quickly adopting blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies.

Yahoo Finance reported that "the new agreement is in connection with Watford’s main shirt sponsor Sportsbet.io, which is running a campaign to “improve awareness around Bitcoin”.

Watford FC fans will be able to receive the Bitcoin logo for already owned jerseys for free.

Watford and Sportsbet.io have launched a Bitcoin education website to increase fans' Bitcoin knowledge. The website offers an explanation of  what is Bitcoin and how fans can make their own Bitcoin purchases.

This partnership does "challenge the norm" admitted Watford CEO Scott Duxbury, but he continued, "“We’re excited about the partnerships and the potential for new global conversations that it could help start for our club.”"

While other sports teams have been sponsored by cryptocurrencies, this is the first time Bitcoin has been on a sport team's jersey.

Bitcoin was created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto.  It is a decentralized digital currency. It is intended to become a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
