Unstoppable Domains Introduces Censorship-Resistant Blogging Platform
The partnership between Unstoppable Domains and Protocol Labs to create a URL for decentralized blogging is yielding results.
On June 11, 2020, San Francisco blockchain firm Unstoppable Domains launched a decentralized blog (dBlog) service which is stored on Protocol Lab’s InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). The URL is completed with the .crypto domain.
Brad Kam, the co-founder of Unstoppable Domains, said in a phone interview:
“No one can take it down. We expect over time all sorts of content that is currently controversial or maybe even not permissible in certain parts of the world popping up because the censorship-resistant internet is usable now.”
According to the firm, the new decentralized blog dBlog is created with tools similar to Medium, it also has functions like – plain text, images, audio, and video.
Unstoppable Domains Serves Crypto Investors and Enthusiasts
Recently, many notable crypto investors have created personal blogs on the network, like CoinShares CSO Meltem Demirors, venture investor William Mougayar and Ethereum developer Alex Masmej.
On the other hand, Masmej said in the private message that he is interested in a permanent nook on the internet more than the censorship-resistant properties of dBlog.
By using 3Box, the data is hosted with secure and decentralized storage by leveraging the peer-to-peer (P2P) structure of IPFS.
The co-founder of Unstoppable Domains also noted that the censorship on tech platforms ramping up, and people aren't guaranteed the kind of free speech they would be in the USA and Northern Europe.
Kam pointed out a report from think tank Freedom House that shown the number of people who are partially or fully censored on the internet number around 2 billion.
He commented:
“The numbers are pretty alarming and I think the trend is towards more...As the world digitizes, the stakes become higher.”
dBlog is built on the integration between Unstoppable Domains and web browser Opera on its Android product.
As the co-founder informed the public, Unstoppable Domains has reached over 200,000 registered domains.
