Twitter CEO Thinks Future Online Content Creation Will be Based in Blockchain

Last week the CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, presented a webinar for the Oslo Freedom Forum 2020 which is organized by the Human Rights Foundation.

In the conference Dorsey shared his thoughts about the vision of the social platform and new hopes Bitcoin and blockchain technology would bring to Twitter.

In his speech, Dorsey emphasized that Twitter was built as a free service, many features had been introduced from users’ own ideas, and it would keep working on a platform where every individual could access and contribute to its content.

In order to achieve that goal, blockchain would be a powerful technology to enhance the development of social networks.

Twitter CEO Thinks Blockchain Will Change the Content Landscape

According to Jack Dorsey, Bitcoin and blockchain hold the capability to strengthen the security of online systems.

Internet services and companies can enhance the safety of their users’ data, from private profiles, to conversations and transaction histories. People can raise their free voices and content will be stored permanently on a blockchain.

In this world, the job of Twitter will no longer be content hosting, but to bring that future closer and discover other business opportunities by supporting blockchain applications.

Not Always an Easy Business

Dorsey also commented on the Bitcoin hack on Twitter this July. In spite of what happened, he still showed his unchanged belief in the potential of digital currencies, and reassured millions of crypto followers on Twitter.

Jack Dorsey has always been known as a big supporter for Bitcoin and blockchain technologies. Last year, he started BlueSky, a non-profit project to work on providing open decentralized standards and solutions for social platforms.

It is also developing open protocols for Twitter itself, so that Twitter users can gain more accessibility and shareability without any constraints. There are a couple of other blockchain-based applications being initialized under Dorsey’s command.

Recently, media reported that a payment feature using blockchain had been demonstrated on Twitter, which would allow its users to conduct money transfers with each other. Dorsey also launched crypto payment option on Square, as he thinks crypto would become the standard money on the Internet.
