Turner Sports Enters Blockchain Gaming Industry with Blockete Games

Turner Sports announced its newest project “Blockete Games” – a gaming platform that is powered by blockchain technology. Originally owned by Warner Media, Turner Sports is known as an international sport broadcaster with many famous programs on TBS, TNT and TruTV.

Blockete Games allows players to gather digital athlete characters, level them up and trade them for rewards. A new feature is the platform is built up and run through non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which are generated based on Ethereum ecosystem.

Those tokens are unique and can be used to verify when players conduct trade activities to exchange their athletes. One of the first released titles was Blockete Golf, a game focusing on managing and trading simulated golfers.

Blockete Games May Spur Further Blockchain Use in Gaming

According to Yang Adija, Vice Present of Business Operations and Strategy at Turner Sports – this will be the company's first move into blockchain games, which is expected to bring exciting experiences to players.

Turner Sports has entered a collaboration with BitPay to provide more payment options for gamers. Up to now, players can pay and earn prizes in a couple of different major coins, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ripple and Ethereum.

Blockchain has been gaining attention in gaming industry. In 2017, the one of the first blockchain games, CryptoKitties was released.

Also based on the Ethereum platform, the game allows players to feed and raise virtual animals, then use them to trade with other gamers. CryptoKitties claims to have given 75% of its revenue back to gamers.

Loads of Room to Grow

Other genres remain as unexplored gold mines for games producers to dig into. Currently, FunFair Technologies is developing an online blockchain casino platform.

FunFair lets gambling enthusiasts play, pay and gain through their native token called FUN. Earlier this year, FunFair successfully entered the Japanese market. The company is putting more effort to expand into other countries.

Not long ago, Chainlink launched its Verifiable Randomness Solution, which promised to bring security for gaming to a higher level. With this new invention, Ethereum Gaming continues grow. As people are generally limited in their gaming options – blockchain may be a way to give people almost anywhere new ways to play.
