Another day, another flying performance from electric drones maker EHang Holdings- IOST’s strategic partner since 2019.

January 2021, the shares of the Chinese manufacturer of electric drones were flying 500% higher than its record on November 2020, from $USD 8 to $USD $40 at the time of writing.

For the uninitiated, in April 2019, the IOST Foundation announced a strategic partnership with EHang in which IOST would provide flight data integrity and data analytics effectiveness in this new exciting aerospace project for the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

IOST delivers to EHang a safe and reliable data management system, and a transparent, viewable entire record of data circulation from the source; all flight data is encrypted and verified and cannot be tampered with by any party. At present, the on-chain flight data is crucial, and the system has achieved significant results in practical applications.

IOST’s cutting-edge technology enables EHang in building an enterprise-level solution to protect aviation information on the blockchain more safely, making data access easier, faster, and safer.

UAVs x Blockchain- A Cross World of Powerful Technologies

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) report highlights blockchain technology’s solution to air data sharing and management and trust issues in UAV by assisting in traffic management, solving data storage problems, and the trust issues of big data in UAV cloud systems.

Due to being deployed in open atmosphere, UAVs are vulnerable to being lost, destroyed or physically hijacked. Various problems in UAV networks such as intra-UAV communication, UAV security, air data security, data storage and management, etc. need to be addressed. Blockchain being a distributed ledger protects the shared data using cryptography techniques including hash functions and public key encryption. It can also be applied for enabling the trust level of the information stored and for improving the security and transparency of the UAVs.

Recently, the State Post Bureau of China issued the “Specification for express delivery service by unmanned aircraft.”. This document was drafted by Ehang and has been officially released and implemented on January 1, 2021. As China’s first UAV delivery service industry standards document, the release and implementation are of great significance for improving the delivery services, ensuring the safety of UAV delivery services, and promoting the development of the UAV delivery services industry in China.
