Users Can Now Host “.crypto” Web Domains with Gemini Custody

Unstoppable Domains is a major blockchain domain provider backed by billionaire Tim Draper which has recently announced its partnership with Gemini, a top cryptocurrency exchange and custodian of Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss to support the custody of “.crypto domains.

Users now can host their “.crypto” addresses purchase through Unstoppable Domains with Gemini Custody, a tool that is created for hosting crypto assets in a regulated, secure and compliant manner.

Domain Registrars 101domain and EnCirca are the First Users

The new service is targeted to registrars of traditional DNS domains with providers like 101domain and EnCirca being the first clients of the new product.

Lauren Tussey, Vice President of Operations at 101domain said:

“At 101domain, we implement the highest standard of security to ensure our corporate clients’ digital assets are protected. Blockchain domains are a new type of domain system that businesses should be aware of. We’ve made it easy for brands to register, store, and secure blockchain domains through”

According to Brad Kam, co-founder of Unstoppable Domains, the registrars will be able to protect their blockchain assets by using Gemini’s custody services.

The “.crypto” domain is a domain registry based on the Ethereum blockchain launched by Unstoppable Domains back in October of 2019.

This domain allows users to connect any crypto address to their domain, supporting domain payments and uncensorable websites alike.

Blockchain domains are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), which are developed on top of the Ethereum blockchain and host on a user’s wallet.

“Gemini providing custody for blockchain domains is a watershed moment for blockchain domains. We’re extremely encouraged by this, as well as the interest from Fortune 1000 companies - several of which have already claimed domains. We’re excited by this and the interest from forward-thinking domain companies like 101Domain and EnCirca,” added Kam.

According to Kam, in addition to Gemini’s custody opportunity, “.crypto” domains can deploy hardware wallets such as Ledger for secure storage.

Crypto Exchanges Tend to Apply “.crypto” Domains.

Unstoppable Domains has reached over 200,000 registered domains such as Kyber.crypto, Switcheo.crypto, myetherwallet.crypto, and meltemdemirors.crypto.

The domain name industry has been planning to roll out blockchain technology to develop the decentralized web.

On July 21, 2020, the major domain registry Verisign got a blockchain patent created to turn traditional domains into a blockchain user address, which allows them to connect other participants on the network.

In the past, the popular browser Opera became the first major browser to integrate the “.crypto” domain extension.
