Crypto.com is in the EU!

The countries on the list include 27 EU member states, as well as Switzerland, the UK, Iceland, and Norway. Previously, the firm had already been offering the available crypto card in Asia and the US, and now it will come to EU as result of its European expansion.

Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com, answered questions about the difficulty in getting approval from regulators across the region that the company’s card issuing and distribution in Europe are "possible under a single EU license, as long as it has been passported across all relevant jurisdictions.”

Marszalek explained further:

“Each EU member state must transpose AMLD5 in local legislation which reflects in slight differences of approach and interpretation, but the overall purpose of the Directive is well adhered to by all countries”

Wirecard, a German financial services provider, is going to be responsible in issue all of Crypto.com’s European cards.

The CEO of Crypto.com said:

“The classic startup model is to launch in partnership with reputable financial institutions, build a user base and infrastructure (team, technology, licenses) and subsequently go for vertical integration. We’re following the same playbook.”

Also, the company is actively working on several new markets to reach the company’s ultimate goal is to have its card available globally, according to Marszalek.

The Crypto Card Industry Works on Adoption in 2020

The crypto debit card race has heated since the start of 2020. Coinbase became the first crypto company to be licensed as a principal partner of Visa in early of this year. This allows the exchange to now issue its own cards without middlemen.

In May, the cryptocurrency Visa card platform, Swipe, has partnered with Samsung Pay, its holders then are able to manage their crypto via Samsung smartphones and smartwatches.
